yesterday...
yesterday marked the first day of our journey with acro yoga. after getting lost on the way to the park ( seriously, i think there should be a law to make those itty bitty street signs bigger), we must have passed cedar street like 3 times, watched the light rail come and go a couple of times as well LOL. once we found the park we set out to find whitney, the amazing woman who will be coming to my studio in january to lead an intro to acro yoga workshop.
as we walked up to where everyone was it was like walking into a magical, electric place. the energy was amazing. everywhere you looked people were doing the most amazing and beautiful poses together. the three of us (alyssa, morgan, and i) were just dumbfounded by what we were seeing. with smiles plastered on our faces and our feet stuck to the ground we just stood and watched everyone. after a little bit whitney came over and chatted with us, which was very sweet, seeing as she was helping everyone out/leading it.
so the three of us set up camp away from everyone and just watched for a bit. then these 2 very sweet people, lori and ted (who make acro yoga look easy as pie) offered to teach alyssa and i a few moves. unfortunately by this time morgan had to leave, but fear not, before she left she did get bit by the acro yoga bug and will be, hopefully, joining us in 2 weeks. so alyssa and i tossed down our mats and literally just jumped on in!
at this point in time alyssa was the base (the person on the bottom; and i was the flyer, the person being tossed around LOL). so she learned proper foot placement, etc. then it was time for me to step up and lift off. i must admit the first time up was a bit scary, and it had nothing to do with my trust level with alyssa. it's just a little scary being above the ground in this manner. but after a few seconds all fell into place and i felt at home at the bottom of her feet LOL.
lori and ted gave us a little routine to practice, which we did until we both felt comfortable (and i must add, everyone was really impressed with how quickly it came to us and how at ease we were). in between tries though, our eyes were glued to all the amazing yogis out there. i think what shocked us both so much was the fact that there were no egos here. no one cared if you fell, if you've been doing this for years or seconds. everyone was just out there having a blast!
so this went on for hours, us watching, us trying, it was amazing!!! i even took a stab at being a base, i did ok for my first time, but i will definitely practice these next two weeks to improve!
afterwards we sort of dashed back to the studio, we had to stop for some frozen yogurt of course hehe. when we got there we showed my husband, troy, our moves and took some photos. he was very impressed! so impressed that he has agreed to join us on this journey! i am so happy and so blessed!!!!
the morning after....
so i woke up this morning still on a bit of my high and sore like you couldn't believe! i swear every part of my body is sore LOL. the funny thing is, i still want more! but i am being a good yogi and resting today, especially since this week will be filled with tons of yoga, included arm balance and inversion workshops.
but i am hooked and counting down the days till i can go again! we are starting to build up a good little group, as of now it's troy, alyssa, morgan, and myself! the plan is 2 weeks from yesterday to go back out there and have a ball at the park!
i noticed what date that is last night, october 23rd, the date of my high school reunion. what's funny is i couldn't be happier spending my day out there with amazing friends and family instead of being in this room with a bunch of people they never liked or acknowledged me and are all trying to prove something. so i am thrilled with my decision to NOT go!

Wow. Absolutely amazing and beautiful!
